Polls: EU chief observer commends INEC for improvement on Card Readers

By Dapo Akinrefon
The chief observer of the European Union Election Observation Mission, Santiago Fisas has commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for its improvement in the Card Reader.

He said this during an observation tour to Ward 2, Polling Unit 011, Olosa street/ Tiamiyu Savage, Victoria Island, Lagos.

Fisas, who lamented low turnout of voters, commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC for prompt distribution of electoral materials.

While he said it was early to make comments on the conduct of the governorship and state House of Assembly elections, he said “you know it is very early to say because accreditation is still on going.

I do not know what is happening in other parts of the country. I was at the collation centre where election materials were distributed.

I appreciate the committment of the young people, there was order and everything was done orderly. Though they had some delays in the area of transportation but we felt that was not too important.”

Commending the peaceful conduct of voters during accreditation, he said “I am at polling unit 11 and everything is quite calm though there are not too many people.

One thing that is different from the presidential elections is that the card readers are performing very well. I am talking about this polling unit, I do not know what is happening elsewhere.”
