Enyimba have cried foul after they lost 2-0 to Smouha in Alexandria, Egypt, to crash out of the CAF Champions League, saying the referee caused their defeat.
Enyimba captain Chinedu Udoji said that even though he prefers not to comment on refereeing, he has no choice but to blame the referee for the loss at Smouha.

“The referee planned our defeat to Smouha. The penalty was not to be, he manufactured it for them and that sent us crashing because it destabilized the team,” Udoji alleged.

But the Enyimba skipper admitted Kingsley Sokari ought to be sent off.

“The red card given to Sokari was a deserved one because he was on yellow card and the second infringement was a foul and so he was booked again,”    Udoji told AfricanFootball.com

Enyimba goalkeeper Femi Thomas further said the referee was biased against them.

“We ought not to have lost the game, we gave it all within us to get the needed result to go through, and we are almost doing that when the referee awarded them a penalty, which was not right,” Thomas argued.

“He also frustrated us with seven bookings and a red card to us.”
