2 APGA chieftains abducted by unknown persons

The Executive Chairman of Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board, ENSUBEB, Nneka Onuora, has blamed the dust raised over the issue of N3.6 billion contract for renovation of schools, which necessitated inquiry by the state House of Assembly, to alleged communication gap between her Board and the Assembly.

She told reporters in Enugu that she had cleared the air when she appeared before the House both with oral and written submissions detailing how the said money was utilised.

She said: “Within one year and nine months under my stewardship, the Board has embarked on verifiable 488 projects in primary and junior secondary schools in the state, whereas previous Boards from 1999 to 2013, spanning about 14 years, had undertaken a cumulative of only 513 projects .”

Onuora added that currently, the Board had achieved 75 per cent completion of  renovation of 488 school buildings in the state, involving 80 different contractors at a cost of N3.6 billion.

“I told our honourable members, if you are not yet feeling any impact in your constituency, it will be because of lack of efforts and foresight on the present Board,’’ the ENSUBEB boss added.
