Julius Berger
By Victor Ahiuma-Young
Julius Berger workersWork was temporarily halted when unemployed graduates from Asaba, Delta State, besieged the premises of Julius Berger Plc, the company handling the construction of the on-going second Niger Bridge, demanding for employment slots in the company.
They claimed that the law governing employment in Delta State provided that companies must employ 50 percent and 30 percent of their unskilled and skilled workers from their immediate environment.
The youths, under the aegis of Umu-Ezenei Association of Graduates, Artisans and Professionals, UAGAP, made up of both males and females, displaying placards with several inscriptions, partially blocked the main entrance to the dredging site of the company, alleging that Julius Berger had failed in its responsibility to its host community.
