Lagos residents at a public water supply point
By Francis Igata
ENUGU — Enugu State government has described as false and misleading reports that it had concessioned water supply in the state to a private firm for a period of 25 years.
Speaking on the issue, state Commissioner for Water Resources, Dr. Michael Nwachukwu said that contrary to the report, the state government had merely executed a concession agreement under a Public Private Partnership, PPP, for the improvement of water supply to Enugu, the capital city, with a private concern, Goldtrust Limited.
He stressed that the company, an internationally recognised consortium in the various segments of potable water supply infrastructure value chain, would under the agreement, reinstate existing water treatment plants at Ajalli, Oji and Iva Valley waterworks. It would also build five new water treatment plants in the state.
