CHAIRMAN of Burutu Local Government, Delta State, Chief Ebikeme Clark, has appealed to the Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC) to extend its electricity assistance for host communities to Burutu, the council headquarters.

Chief Clark, who made the appeal at an SPDC organized workshop for Delta host local governments held in Effurun, lamented that prolonged blackout in Burutu is causing untold hardship to residents and the administration of the council.

“My argument is that the distance between host communities currently enjoying SPDC electricity and Burutu town is less than 10km and it is within the operational base of Shell, which is the Forcados Terminal in Burutu LGA, contributing immensely to the economy of Nigeria.

“It is Burutu town alone that is not connected to the national grid out of the 25 LGA headquarters in Delta State. No potable water and no bridge connecting the headquarters to the rest of Nigeria, retarding growth of the council headquarters.
