Bauchi—Barely three weeks to the 2015 general elections, 10 political parties and their candidates have signed a peace accord in Bauchi State, assuring a violent-free election in the state.
The forum, brought together political parties candidates vying for elective positions from the National Assembly to state House of Assembly and governorship candidates.
The political parties and candidates that signed the peace pack includes KOWA Party, All Allied Congress of Nigeria, AACN, African Democratic Congress ADC, Mega Progressive Peoples Party, MPPP, Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, All Progressive Congress APC, All for Democracy, AD, All Progressive Grand Alliance APGA, Action Reliance, AR and People Democratic Congress, PDC.
In his address on the occasion, the Area Commander, Bauchi Metro, ACP Olukayode Samuel, said the signing of the peace accord was to avoid politically motivated violence before, during and after the elections.
He said: “Political and electoral violence has cause a lot of damage in the past, lives have also been lost in addition to properties that have been destroyed.
“One of our cardinal point of duty as security agents is ensure the security of lives and property and that is why we called upon the leaders of political parties as well as candidates vying for political seat during the election to sign a peace accord that they will be held responsible for their actions as well as their supporters.
“On our part as security agents, we will be proactive during the conduct during the election to forestall any breakdown of law and order in the state. We cannot afford to experience the crisis happened during the 2011 general election.”
In his remark, the Chief Superintendent of Police, Tusen-Tanshi Divisioner Police headquaters, Adullahi Wase, warned politicians against a do or die election, noting that in every contest, there must a winner and a loser.
