LAGOS—Governor Babatunde Fashola of Lagos State, yesterday, alleged that 50 per cent of the construction workers in the country have been laid-off due to the economic crunch in the country.

Fashola also alleged that President Goodluck Jonathan and members of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, were divided over the importance of technology in the country’s development.

The governor spoke at the All Progressives Congress, APC, campaign rally in Ibeju-Lekki Local Government Area of the state, organised to sensitise residents on the forthcoming elections.

He noted that the figure is contained in a survey he conducted to know the impact of the economic crunch on the citizens.

“If Nigerians failed to vote out this PDP-led Federal Government on March 28, more could follow soon.”

In the last 16 years, Fashola lamented that Nigerians have elected a bad party at the federal level.

He said that the country was “at a very crucial stage,” adding that the days before the election would afford Nigerians the opportunity to understand the reasons to vote out the current administration.

“For me, I will not vote for Jonathan in the forthcoming election, and I don’t advice anyone to do so,” Fashola maintained.

Explaining the reason for his, decision, the governor stated that the President, the PDP’s governorship candidate, Mr. Jimi Agbaje and the party were not in tandem on the use of technology.

“The President has consistently said that he is passionate about helping the youths and he would improve technology so that the youths can have technology at their disposal. But his party, PDP, said that they do not want card readers for the 2015 elections. Is that not technology?” he queried.

“Their candidate in Lagos (Jimi Agbaje) said that he will give youth internet hotspots and why was his party against the use of card reader for next election. Isn’t that technology,” he added.

The governor alleged that the President and his party had continuously lied to Nigerians on issues concerning them.

According to Fashola, “They argued that they have given Nigerians electricity but it is not. They lied that they have not devalued the Naira but few days later, the truth on the devaluation was revealed.

“When Nigerians complained about insecurity, they came out to say that they have killed the leader of the Boko Haram. Now the President has told the soldiers to capture the leader of the sect, can one capture a dead man. When the Chibok girls were captured, the President said that they weren’t missing. Later he said they have found them. And when everyone demanded for the girls, they said the opposition knows their whereabout.”
