Insecurity: Securex expo to the rescue

By Providence Obuh

Nigerians who are unduly disturbed by threats to their personal safety owing to the increasing security and other related challenges in the country can now heave a sigh of relief.

And they have Montgomery West Africa to thank for this as it is organising the Securex West Africa commercial, homeland, cyber security, fire protection and safety exhibition which will hold on March 24 and 25, 2015 at the Eko Hotel Convention Centre, Lagos to offer solutions on security issues within the West African Region.

The event is for the security market in the West Africa region and it will also provide for security professionals to engage with leading commercial, homeland and cyber security, fire protection and safety product and service providers, creating the ideal platform for exhibitors to showcase their brands to a market that is ready to source the best from around the globe.

Speaking at a press briefing in Lagos, Managing Director, Montgomery West Africa, Ms. Tori Abiola, said that the event is dedicated to provide a unique platform for all in the security supply chain to engage, educate and showcase the latest trends and solutions.

According to Abiola: “ There are lots of emotion about security from the population; we want to offer practical solutions to the people. A major challenge of security in Nigeria is capacity building. Therefore, government has to put structures in place to address security issues.”

Executive Secretary, Nigeria Institute for Industrial Research, Mr. Wilson Esangbedo, added that the shifting security landscape and newly emerging threats require West Africa countries to formulate national security and frameworks that share common approaches and address security concerns.

On his part, a Security Consultant and CEO, Dartwood Global Solutions Ltd, Mr. Thomas Fakile, said: “The security needs in Nigeria are obvious in most cases. But putting into full use and maximising the benefits of today’s technologies continue to be a challenge for most outfits in Nigeria.’’
