Abuja – The House of Representatives Committee on Sports on Wednesday said the National Sports Commission (NSC) may not get budgetary allocation this year for failing to appear before the committee to defend its budget.
The Deputy Chairman of the committee, Rep. Ayo Omidiran (Osun-APC), stated this while deploring the absence of the Minister of Sports and heads of departments and agencies under the ministry to defend their 2015 budget.
The absence of the Sports Minister and Chairman, NSC, Tammy Danagogo; Nigeria Football Association (NFA) Chairman, Amaju Pinnick and Director-General, NSC, Gbenga Elegbeleye, were absent at the scheduled budget defence.
Omidiran described their absence, which stalled the exercise as an affront on the powers of the legislature
“ We have been dealing with them as colleagues in the business of moving sports forward in Nigeria.
“However, what we have seen today is a shame and I hope that they redeem their image as soon as possible
“They have to defend their budget and we have to make inputs before we can approve that budget.
“So, if they do not come to sort themselves out by Friday, there will be no budget for the commission,’’ he said. (NAN)
