ENUGU—Worried by incessant communal clashes leading to killings and wanton destruction of property nationwide,the Inspector General of Police, Mr. Suleiman Abba, has set up a Communal Clash Committee to mitigate incidences of inter- and intra-communal crisis.

Declaring the committee’s sitting open in Enugu yesterday, Chairman of the Committee, AIG Christopher Dega, noted that the IG had to set up the committee, following frequent communal clashes nationwide, which had claimed lives and property.

He said: “The committee is an intervention measure to mitigate issues of communal clashes nationwide.

“We will tour the 36 states of the federation to dialogue with all stakeholders in the communities on lasting ways to entrench peace in our communities.

“As we have resumed sitting in Enugu, we are calling on all warring communities in the state to come and make their submissions, or submit written memorandum to us to enable us produce a report that will be implemented for the peaceful coexistence of communities.

“The essence of the committee is to advocate peace, dialogue during inter- and intra-community differences. We are independent and not aligned to any political party.”
