Elders lament plight of Enugu Daily Star staff

Concerned Elders of Enugu State have appealed to Governor Sullivan Chime to urgently intervene over the pitiable condition of employees of Daily Star, one of the foremost newspapers that played a key role in the country’s pre-and post independent struggle.

The elders, who spoke through a release by their Coordinator, Chief E. Akubue, said: “The workers are passing through excruciating hardship as they have not been enjoying their full salaries.

“Their promotions have not attracted financial value since 2007. The arrears of salaries owed these staff are unbelievable.

“The affected workers are yet to benefit from the minimum wage which the governor started paying workers of Enugu State since August 2011.”
