Super Eagles captain Vincent Enyeama and international team mate John Mikel Obi top the nominees for the 2014 Nigeria Pitch Awards.

Managing Partner SIAO, Ituah Ighodalo announced that the nominees were arrived at after a painstaking process of distribution, retrieval, collation and verification of the nominations and voting.

Enyeama will battle his Enyimba counterpart, Femi Thompson and Kano Pillars goal tenderTheo Afelokhai for goalkeeper of the year award. Mikel Obi was nominated for the midfielder of the year award category. Mikel will have to outdo Lazio and Super Eagles midfielder, Ogenyi Onazi and Enyimba’s Kingsley Sokari, just as Godfrey Oboabona, Kenneth Omeruo and Chinedu Udoji will fight for the defender of the year award.

Other categories include striker of the year, club of the year, coach of the year, manager of the year and even players agent of the year.

Sports Editor of Vanguard Newspapers, Tony Ubani was also nominated for the football writer of the year award. Ubani was nominated alongside Ade Ojeikere of the Nations Newspapers and Tana Aiyejina of the Punch Newspapers.
