Bauchi—A governorship aspirant in the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Bauchi State Mohammed Abdullahi Tanko Ningi has sued the party over the last conduct of the party primary in the state.
Other defendants in the suit are Independent National Electoral Commission and the governorship candidate of the party, Mr Mohammed Abdullahi Abubakar.
Addressing newsmen in Bauchi, weekend Ningi said the result of the primary election which Abubakar as the winner was skewed in favour of the candidate.
He said the laws of the party stated that for governorship election, members of the election committee must come from outside the state, but stressed that a native of Bauchi State, Dr Danjuma Dabo conspicuously participated in the counting of votes, contrary to the guidelines.
Ningi alleged that before the commencement of the election, the Chairman of the Election Committee, Mr Rotimi Akeredolu announced that 2,854 delegates were accredited for the primary, while the result showed that 2,901 votes were counted.
He said that party’s laws stipulated that, ‘’where you record over voting, the election should be cancelled but they went ahead and declared Abubakar winner.
“Six out of the eight aspirants that contested wrote separate petitions to the National Leadership of the Party and a reminder on 4th of December. From the time the primary was held to date, the party remained silent and refused to take any action over their complaints .Because this reason, i decided to go to court to seek for Justice.”
Ningi appeal to the Court to stop Abubakar from parading himself as Bauchi APC Governorship candidate and stop APC from submitting his name to the electoral body for the forthcoming governorship election.
When contacted, the state Publicity Secretary of APC, Auwal Jallah gave reasons why the national leadership of the party have not attended to petitions of aggrieved aspirants, saying they did not submit their grievances to the right channel in the APC.
