Awka—National Chairman of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA, Chief Victor Umeh, has said the party threw its weight behind President Goodluck Jonathan’s re-election bid to get the rights of the Igbo.
Addressing reporters at Aguluzigbo, his home town, Umeh, who is the party’s senatorial candidate for Anambra Central, said APGA was mobilizing adequately for the re-election of President Jonathan.
He also said the party was vigorously campaigning for its candidates for national and state assembly elections.
He expressed optimism that APGA candidates were on course to win their seats and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, for heeding the popular opinion for the postponement of the elections to enable it prepare adequately.
He said: “Within the provisions of the law, the postponement is valid. The issues of security and others cited as the reasons for the shift were beyond INEC and it, therefore, had no other option than to the general opinion.
“Also, the issue of non-collection of the permanent voter cards, PVCs, by many eligible voters is a cogent reason, especially as millions of Nigerians were yet to collect their cards.”
He added that though the postponement would impact negatively on candidates’ finances, it was better to get it right before conducting it, than cancel it later due to poor preparations.
