The President Goodluck Jonathan-led Federal Government, yesterday, shunned the coronation of the 57th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, as no official from the Presidency was present at the historic and colorful event.
Also significantly absent was the Minister of Education, Malam Ibrahim Shekarau, who is the Sardaunan Kano.
Sunday Vanguard observed visible anger among residents and personalities at the 1,200 capacity seater coronation arena located at the precinct of Government House, Kano as they openly lamented the Presidency’s absence.
A resident of Hotoro quarters, Ahmad Isa, said: “The failure by Jonathan to send a representative to say the least is politics taken too far”.
The presentation of staff of office by Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso to the emir was conducted amidst tight security. The ceremony was graced by the Sultan of Sokoto and the emirs of Zazzau, Daura, Dutse, Jaman and Katsina. Others in attendance were the presidential candidate of the APC, Major General Muhammadu Buhari, and many other leaders of the party including Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and the governors of Sokoto, Zamfara, Borno and Yobe states.
