ENUGU—Ahead of this month’s general elections, the Commissioner of Police, Enugu State, Mr. Abubakar Adamu Mohammed, has charged politicians to abstain from the use of inflammatory words during their electioneering campaigns.

The Police commissioner made the language during a meeting of political parties, civil societies and relevant stakeholders in the elections.

According to Adamu, “campaigns should be issue-based, devoid of personal attacks on candidates. As you can see, the country is already volatile. Campaigns should not heighten the prevailing situation.

“Provocative statements that engender malaise and anger should be discarded. Advice your party faithful to always play by the rules and be law abiding during the exercise.

“A level playing field has been provided by all the security agencies in the state to ensure free and fair polls. The command has trained its personnel on the conduct of the election and will work with other sister security agencies to protect lives and property during and after the polls.”
