Enugu PDP raises alarm over smear campaign

Ugwuanyi: Supported by the party

By Francis Igata

ENUGU—Peoples Democratic, Party, PDP, Enugu State, chapter, yesterday, raised alarm over alleged plot by unnamed political opponents in the state to embark on campaign of calumny against Mr. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi, its governorship candidate.

A statement by the Director, Media and Publicity of PDP Campaign Organization in the state, Chukwudi Achife, claimed that the party had uncovered a plot, led by the governorship candidate of a major opposition party, to circulate false stories through local newspapers and the social media about Ugwuanyi in a desperate bid to smear his image and reputation.

Achife claimed the antics of the opposition candidate behind the purported smear campaign was not surprising since “he is known as a person who has neither conscience nor a defined agenda for the development and eman-cipation of Enugu State.”

The PDP campaign spokesman, however, said the gambit, as in previous occasions, was bound to fail and boomerang.

While warning that PDP would not allow its image and that of its candidates to be smeared through falsehood, he advised the general public to ignore such antics from a politician known for “his crass desperation to occupy the Lion Building by any possible means.”
