PORT HARCOURT—ALL Progressives Congress, APC, members in Ikwerre Local Government Area of Rivers State have accused the Police of indiscriminate arrest of its members in the council over alleged unsubstantiated issues.
Commissioner for Lands and Survey and leader of the party in the council, Mr Ezemonye Ezekiel–Amadi, who spoke yesterday, in Port Harcourt, said the Police in the council have been witch hunting members of his party, adding that they recently arrested one Chibuike Olocha, a member of APC, who later died two days after he was released by the Police.
He said: “In December 2014, one Chibuike Olocha was arrested by the Police in Igwuruta, Ikwerre Council. His offence was his soft spot for the APC. He was detained until last week and only released when the Police found out that he was close to death from beating he had received earlier. Two days after he was released from detention, he died. He is yet to be buried.”
He appealed to the Police to be neutral in their relationship with the various political parties in the council, saying: “We have called you here to pour out our sorrow to you just in case you can help us prevail on the Police to stop their attack on us.
“What we ask for is that the Police in our council should be neutral and abate the wanton cruelty on innocent APC members.”
