Nigerians under the umbrella of  UK Vanguard, in the United Kingdom have called on economic experts and all Nigerians to support the on-going transformation of the agricultural sector in order to boost productivity in non-oil sectors of the economy.

The national vice coordinator of the group, Oghene-ovoh Amurun, said this in a chat with Sunday Vanguard, stressing that policy continuity in agriculture is very important for the sector to build on the existing structures put in place to stimulate growth.

He said, “The current transformation in agriculture must be sustained for the economy to pick up and create jobs, especially with the declining oil revenue. Though the economy experienced some challenges in 2014, the transformation agenda of President Goodluck Jonathan, in agriculture and his efforts to resuscitate the  power sector, shows that he has good plans for the nation’s economy. We need continuity in economic policies not only in agriculture but in all sectors of our economy like what obtains in advanced countries. This would pave the way for government to diversity the economy for greater prosperity.”

He added, “As a group, we have confidence that members of the current economic team of Jonathan, have what it takes and are putting measures in place to shore up the economy for increased productivity. This is the time for all stakeholders in the economy and|Nigerians to support the policies and programmes of government for our economy to stabilise.  We must also support the effort of government in trying to maintain    a peaceful economic environment for industries to thrive”.
