ABEOKUTA—Forty eight hours after three groups within the Peoples Democratic Party in Ogun State were reportedly planning to dump the party, another strong group has indicated its readiness to quit the umbrella party.
The Imole group led by a former deputy governor of the state, Rafiu Ogunleye which claims to have about 150,000 membership threatened that it would dump the PDP for another party if the leadership of the PDP fails to honour the agreement it had reached with it while joining the party on October 2013.
Three groups within the PDP led by former governor of the state, Otunba Gbenga Daniel, former minister of finance, Jubril Martins-Kuye and a former Speaker of House of Representatives, Dimeji Bankole are said to be preparing to leave the party soon.
In a statement signed by its Chairman, Dr. Tayo Bello , the group gave some conditions to the party leadership which include one slot of Senatorial seat, three House of Representatives seats and eight slots at the state House of assembly for it to rescind its planned defection to another party.
According to the group; “It should be noted that the main reason we joined the PDP was to ensure that power is wrestled away from the incumbent who is from the central senatorial district of the state and to also work with PDP to ensure that it becomes victorious in the next general election in 2015.
“This was a tenet that we hold dear in the heart of Imole leadership until the recent political development in the PDP in respect of the emergence of a governorship candidate for the party in the gateway state.,’ the statement said in part.’’
