ILORIN— THE Primate of the Church of Nigeria (Anglican Communion), Most Reverend Peter Jasper Akinola yesterday in Oro, Kwara State lamented over what he described as the vacuum created by the absence of President Umaru Yar ‘Adua, stressing that some people are benefitting from the crisis.

The way forward, according to him, is for the  political leaders to respect the constitution  of Nigeria which is supreme and avoid the present leadership vacuum.

He  noted that lack of respect for the constitution was contradictory to the respect for the rule of law which the President claimed to stand for.

Akinola added that those benefitting from the present crisis were particularly those who are against the respect for the constitution of the country which he said is supreme.

The Primate spoke on the  state of the nation shortly after inaugurating the newly created Diocese of Igbomina West in Iludun Oro, Irepodun local government area of Kwara State.

The Primate said those who were benefitting from the present leadership crisis “are feeding fat on the situation. They are saying he should not follow the constitution by handing over to his vice.”

He noted that such people  “are promoting lawlessness. There is a vacuum in the leadership of this country and it is not right. We should just follow the constitution,”.
