Impeached Guyuk council boss faults process

By Umar Yusuf

YOLA — Impeached Chairman of Guyuk Local Government Council of Adamawa State, Engineer Kube Dwana, has faulted the way and manner the entire exercise was hastily carried out by the legislative arm of the council.

Dwana, while reacting to his removal, expressed regret that due process was not followed, which he said rendered the entire exercise null and void.

“Impeachment of an elected officer is always based on rules and proced-ures. I was yet to be served an impeachment notice, talk more of replying it. But all of a sudden I heard that I have been impeached,” he fumed.

He added that the Local Government Establishment Law is very clear on the issue of impeachment, saying that the legislative council has not received a reply from him which they will deliberate upon to either validate or invalidate the impeachment.

According to him, “given the fact that the legislative council was not addressing the allegations on their merit, the state leadership of our party, the Peoples Democra-tic Party, PDP, had intervened and amicable settlement  made. But the next day the legislators insisted on the impeachment.”

He disclosed that following the lack of due process coupled with disregard of the intervention of the PDP hierarchy toward amicable settlement, he has refused to accept the said impeachment. He said being a loyal PDP member, he opted not to file any case in court but has allowed the party to address the issue at the state level.
