My jealousy might destroy my relationship

Dear Bunmi,

I am a jealous person, have no confidence as I think I’m ugly. I am 28-years-old and have a girlfriend who tells me she loves the person I am, yet if she as much as glances at another man, I get paranoid.

The thought of her finding someone else attractive makes me feel sick. I think I’ll drive her away with my insane jealousy, but I love her and don’t want that to happen.

Do you think I can change?
Nickolas, by e-mail.

Dear Nickolas,

Most men wonder if their women will find someone else. But if you feel sick over it, you’re suffering from something more serious. Maybe as a kid, you got the message you weren’t good enough, that people didn’t love you. Or you’ve had one or two broken relationships and now that something good’s happened to you, you go back to being that unhappy person.

You need to overcome this jealousy by trying to trust your girlfriend. Even the most handsome of guys get their hearts broken. It’s part of life.

Trust in your ability to give and receive love.
Even when love ends, a more beautiful chapter opens.
