The Ibaka Deep Sea Port, now Ibom Deep Sea Port project, which was to have been sited in Ibenor Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, has received a “No Objection” certificate from the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission, ICRC, awaiting final approval of the Federal Executive Council, FEC, Vanguard has learned.

A source close to the Ministry of Transport, who spoke to Vanguard on the condition of anonymity, said that the “No Objection” certification and other relevant documents had since been submitted to the ministry awaiting its submission to FEC for final approval.

The source explained that the ministry had appointed a Ministerial Steering and Delivery Committee to see to the actualisation of the project. Contrary to claims that the project had been abandoned, the source said the committee had to go through due process to ensure that laid down procedures were observed and that the project was commercially viable when it finally comes on stream.
