ASABA—ACADEMIC Staff Union of Universities, Delta State University, ASUU, Abraka branch, has accused the state government of care-free attitude to the kidnap of Associate Professor Nyerhovwo Tonukari, a lecturer in the institution.
It lamented that 37 days after he was “picked ingloriously and criminally by hawkish abductors for monetary ransom,” Tonukari was still being kept away “just like the Chibok girls.”
The branch, in a statement by its Chairman, Professor Abel Diakparomre, and Secretary, Dr. Emmanuel Ufuophu-Biri, said: “Another frightening dimension Tonukare’s kidnap is taking is that his brother, Tega Tonukare, with whom the kidnappers have been holding discussion, was himself abducted by persons we believe kidnapped Tonukari. The fear is palpable that if the Tonukares are not released immediately, staff of the University may find it difficult to leave their homes to attend to their normal duties as no one knows who next the victim is likely to be.”
