WARRI—THE Joint Task Force (JTF) yesterday said the soldier involved in the gruesome killing of three workers at Chevron’s Escravos-Gas-To-Liquid (EGTL) project site has been withdrawn. Similarly, a high-powered inquiry has commenced to unravel the circumstances behind the shooting.
Disclosing these in a statement, Co-ordinator, Joint Media Campaign Centre of the JTF, Lt. Col. T.O. Antigha, said the soldier would face severe sanctions if found culpable.

He said also that the Macaraba and Utonana pipeline vandalisation was a sabotage by criminals, adding that the JTF, Delta State Police Command and other agencies have commenced investigations with a view to apprehending and bringing the criminals behind the dastardly act to justice.

Antigha  maintained that this was an isolated incident and, therefore, advised the media and general public to ignore any misguided and attention-seeking individual or group clamoring to claim responsibility.

Describing the EGTL killing as very unfortunate, Lt. Col. Antigha commended Delta State government and other peace-loving stakeholders who acted promptly to diffuse tension over the issue.

He advised everyone in the Niger Delta to remain calm as the situation was under control.
