Governor Liyel Imoke of Cross River State, weekend, said the state remained a stronghold for President Goodluck Jonathan in the 2015 presidential election.

Imoke, who spoke with journalists at Margaret Ekpo International Airport, Calabar, on arrival from Abuja, said the government and people of the state were solidly behind the president’s second term ambition.

The governor was the chairman of the event committee for the president’s declaration last Tuesday.

Dismissing claims that he was set to dump Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, for All Progressives Congress, APC, he said nothing would make him quit a party in which he was a founding member.

“There is nothing conceivable that will make me quit PDP, a party that I am not only a founding member of, but also brought the flag to the state. I will rather leave politics than quit PDP, “ he stressed.

He said since he was not seeking any elective office, his preoccupation now was to play his part and ensure that the president was re-elected in 2015.
Cross River State, he said, would continue to support President Jonathan even beyond the 2015 presidential election because the people believed in his transformation agenda.
