WARRI—HUNDREDS of people wept uncontrollably yesterday at the Miller Waterside of Warri, Delta State, as the bodies of four Gbaramatu children involved in last weekend’s boat accident involving two speed boats were recovered and buried.

The accident, according to a survivor, Mrs. Elizabeth Okoro, occurred near a Joint Task Force (JTF) post close to Warri Ports at 7 a.m. last Saturday, as the children were returning from Benikrukru where they had gone on holidays.

She said the accident occurred when the boat conveying her and others ran into the boat carrying the children due to invisibility caused by overloading of their boat.

The names of the dead were given as 10-year-old Tarma Orugbo (female); Absalom Odu (male), five years; Meshela Odu (female), five and Tugha Odu (Female), seven.

A relative of the victims, Roseline Boytie, told Vanguard that three of the four children were of the same parents, while the other was their cousin.

Sources at the Marine Police confirmed the incident and the arrest of the two speedboat operators, but declined further comments.
