 AWKA—ANAMBRA State students in the country’s tertiary institutions have vowed to resist any attempt to use them as thugs during the forthcoming governorship election in the state.

Rising from a meeting in Awka, the students observed that they had been used by unscrupulous politicians to rig elections over the years, adding that such behaviour had led to the untimely death of some of their colleagues.

In a joint statement by the president of the National Association of Nigerian Students, NANS, Mr. Kingsley Ezekwelu, the president of the Students Union Government of Nnamdi Azikiwe University, Mr. Nelson Omenugha and chairman of Joint Action Committee, Mr. Nonso Oforzoba, the students said that they had put machinery in place to set up observer groups, who would report appropriately on the election proceedings.

According to the statement, the students and youths in the state would be massively mobilized to protect the votes of Anambra people, adding that those who plan to cause mayhem during the election would be dealt with accordingly.
