Dutse — Jigawa state government has proposed to set up a special mobile court in the state that will  attend to all  Fulani and farmers clashes to ensure speedy judgments into such cases.

The Secretary to the State Government, SSG, Dr. Aminu Abdullahi dropped this hint while briefing newsmen in Dutse shortly after the State Security Council’s meeting at the state government house in Dutse.

He explained that the meeting, which was a combination of the members of the state security council and the 27 local government councils’ chairmen, also agreed for the establishment of  a joint team between the police and vigilante group to effect the order on grazing in the night by Fulani cattle rearers in the state.

Border patrol

Abdullahi disclosed that the state police command and vigilante groups will be assign to patrol the border areas between the state and the Niger Republic where most of the clashes usually take place and from where mostly the Fulani migrate into the state.

He further explained that the patrol team will arrest any pastoralist found grazing in the night or violating grazing law. Farmers who encroach on the grazing land as well as those grazing to water point will also be arrested.

According to him, “the establishment of the patrol team and mobile courts is aimed at enforcing grazing laws, maintaining the demarcation of farmlands and grazing lands, water points and passages.”

Dr. Abdullahi expressed optimism that the courts will give speedy judgment in identified cases, adding that government will have better information on how to pay any person that was cheated and punishing the one found guilty.

The SSG added that the decision for the establish-ment of the court was part of  the recommendations by the state government Fulani Pastoralist and Farmers Conflict Resolu-tions Committee and the reports of a minor clash between them in three local government areas in the state within six weeks.
