Angola 2010: Tom Tom announces initiatives to support Eagles

As the Super Eagles kick-start the campaign to win the 27th edition of the African Cup of Nations on Tuesday, Tom Tom, the Official Candy of the Nigerian national football teams, has announced a series of activities to support the team.

Eagles Among these initiatives is the Tom Tom Shot-on-Target. Beginning from their opening game against the defending champions Egypt on Tuesday, the Super Eagles will win $1,000 (about N148,000) for every shot on target in every game.

Officials and players of the Nigerian U-17 team admitted that the Tom Tom Shot-on-Target award, an innovative idea which was first introduced by Tom Tom during the 2009 FIFA U-17 World Cup held in Nigeria, served as a great motivating factor for the Golden Eaglets all the way to the final where the team narrowly lost to the Swiss side.

In all, the Nigerian lads recorded 65 shots on target, earning $16,250 (about N2,405,000) and were treated to a lavish reception by Tom Tom two days after their silver_winning campaign.
It is expected that the Tom Tom Shot_on_Target award would encourage the Super Eagles to overcome Egypt, Benin Republic and Mozambique, all group stage opponents, as well as other teams in the knock_out stages. Nigerians are quite eager to lift the trophy last won 16 years ago in Tunisia.
Idorenyen Enang, Commercial Director of Cadbury Nigeria Plc, manufacturers of Tom Tom candy, was confident that the shot_on_target award would galvanise the Super Eagles to fulfil the aspirations of all Nigerians in Angola 2010.
He said: “TomTom, the Official Candy of the national teams, is giving an incentive that will foster team work, drive, focus and excellence with an award of $1,000 for every shot on target and this will be summed and given to the team. Tom Tom started with the Nigerian U_17 side and, according to the team captain and coach, it served as a motivation that led to 65 shots on target.”
Also being introduced by Tom Tom is the Inside Report, which will feature detailed accounts of activities in the camp of the Super Eagles. The primary objective of this initiative is to enable Nigerians access the preparation of their team for every game and be able to pass goodwill messages to the players and their officials.

A dedicated TV crew will be stationed in the Super Eagles camp right throughout the championship with delayed broadcast in major TV networks across the country.
