Wife of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in charge of Zone 2 Police Command, Onikan, Hajia Rabi Manko has handed over the leadership of Police Officers Wives Association (POWA) in Lagos State to the wife of the new Commissioner of police, Mrs. Maudlyn Aderanti.
The handing over ceremony took place at the POWA Multi-purpose Auditorium on Tuesday. During her tenure as the POWA leader, Mrs. Manko embarked on regular visitation to some orphanages and Old people’s homes where donations of money and materials were donated. She was also the brain behind the commissioning of the multi-million-naira POWA multi-purpose hall in GRA, Ikeja. Her administration also sponsored the training of police officers wives on skills acquisition and business management.
Speaking at the ceremony, Mrs. Manko noted that her administration ensured that the welfare of officer’s wives was not treated with kid glove.
“I will miss my officer’s wives. They supported me throughout my tenure and I would describe them as wonderful people. We have transformed the Oduduwa Police environment. The building was completed during my tenure. The project started during the reign of the former wife of DIG Marvel Akpoyibo, Mrs. Grace Akpoyibo.
Her successor, Mrs. Maudlyn Aderanti noted that she would improve on the effort of her predecessor.
“I intend making sure that the welfare of police officers wives is taken seriously. These facilities I met would be upgraded and maintained. We would bring in people who would teach our people skills. We would bring experts to carry out medical screening on our members. We would visit rehabilitation centers and orphanages often, she stated”
