ONITSHA—Worried by the campaign of calumny by politicians in Anambra State ahead of the 2015 general election, speaker of the state House of Assembly, Princess Chinwe Nwaebili, yesterday advised politicians against heating up the polity by their unguarded utterances.

Addressing reporters in her office, Nwaebili described as unfortunate the way politicians, especially a member  of the House of Representative from her federal constituency had allegedly been abusing other politicians including her in the media to score cheap popularity.

According to her, the media attack by the lawmaker representing her federal constituency started the moment she declared interest to vie for the Ogbaru federal constituency in 2015 general election.

“I vehemently believe that, at this stage of our democracy, politicians that are worth their onions should discuss issues rather than persons. We should sell ourselves to the people based on what we have on ground after being in office and not running people who have things on ground to seek a mandate of the people.”

Nwaebili, a two-time legislator in the state House of Assembly, said she had empowered the youths, widows, provided scholarship to students in primary, secondary and university from her area since she was elected.

Besides, the speaker said she had provided transformers, attracted the construction of the Naval road in her constituency, built some class room blocks in some schools in her area, provided yam seedlings for farmers, built Nigeria Union of Teachers, NUT, secretariat in the constituency, assisted more than 100 students to secure admission to UNIZIK, Awka.

Nwaebili described as baseless reports in the media that the wife of the state governor had promised her automatic ticket in All Progressives Grand Alliance,  APGA, for her ambition, saying  the wife of the governor was not the leadership of the party.

She urged the people of Anambra, especially Ogbaru not to take such politicians seriously because they had nothing to offer them.
