ABUJA—TEN years after, the Federal Government has approved the release of N2.117 billion for immediate payment to former staff of the defunct Nigeria Airways.

The money is to be sourced from the issuance of Federal Government bonds through the Debt Management Office, DMO, to offsets the final payment and gratuity of the staff of SAHCOL disengaged in 2002, as well as the payoff to the families of deceased staff.

Government also approved contracts for the procurement of crane for the power sector fund in the sum of N250 million, and another for the design, manufacture and supply of 1 unit of all-terrain, 50-ton grove mobile model GMK3050-1, including spare parts in the sum of N11.1million plus 631,568.18 pounds with a delivery period of 12 months.

Council also approved contract for the design, manufacture and supply of 18   500KVA and 40 300KVA for the earthling transformers for the transmission company of Nigeria.

Speaking to newsmen at yesterday’s Federal Executive Council, FEC, meeting, the Minister Information and
Communication, Prof Dora Akunyili said the approval is sequel to a memo presented to FEC by the Finance Minister which sought approval for the payment of the entitlements of the ex-staff of the defunct government-owned  airline.
