The People’s Democratic Party, PDP has been asked to bar the acting governor of Adamawa State, Alhaji Umaru Fintri from its governorship primaries on the claim that he is also a member of the All Progressives Congress, APC.
The petition dated August 29 and addressed to the Adamawa State Governorship Screening Committee of the PDP, alleged that Fintiri registered for the APC during the party’s recent national registration exercise when he and many other PDP officials in the state switched to the APC in solidarity with the former governor of the state, Alhaji Murtala Nyako.
This came as former Senate Chief Whip, Senator Rowland Owie called on the national leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party,PDP, to be careful about granting waiver to Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, noting that Adamawa State chapter of the PDP should be allowed to handle the matter.
The petition signed by Ahmed Ya’uba on behalf of Concerned Youths for Good Governance in Adamawa State said Fintiri registered for the APC at his KIRSHINGA unit of K/WURO NGAYANDI ward of MADAGALI Local Government, with registration number 05009281.
The group said that since Fintiri failed to ask for a waiver, he could as best be said to be having dual party affiliation and not the best example for the PDP.
“By the provisions of Section 16 (2) and Section 16 (4) of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as amended, Ahmadu Umaru has no right to contest for any position under the party’s platform. It is therefore a misnomer that he is positioning himself as an aspirant for the position of the governor of Adamawa State,”the group said.
