Bauchi — Two persons aspiring for the position of local government chairmen in Dass and Tafawa Balewa Local Government Areas of Bauchi State under the All Progressives Congress, APC, Bala Gori and Ahmed Dankade have filed fresh suit against the Bauchi State Governor, state Assembly, Commissioner of Justice, seeking to void the appointment of care taker committee to run local governments in the state.

The suit, which included 20 caretaker committee chairmen as defendants, challenged non-conduct of local government election in the state.
The case filed by Ibrahim Isiyaku, SAN,  before state High Court 3 presided over by Justice Aliyu Liman, claimed that the rights to vote and be voted for in elections into the local government elections in the state had been infringed upon by the dependants with the appointment of the 20 Local Government Caretaker Committee Chairmen.

They want the court to declare that the only system of local government known to law by virtue of the 1999 Constitution is elected representatives.
Isiyaku asked the court to declare the appointment of the 20 council chairmen as unconstitutional, null and void.

He equally asked the court to restrain the 20 chairmen from parading themselves as chairman, vice chairman and councillors or collectively as care taker committee chairmen as well as restrain the state government from appointing anybody to oversee the affairs of the councils except by conducting local government elections.
Meanwhile, the presiding judge, Justice Liman, has fixed September 9 for hearing.
