We won’t recognise Giwa’s board – Delta FA

The board of the Delta State Football Association has denounced the Chris Giwa-led board of the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), saying that it would not recognise the faction or deal with it in the running of football in Nigeria.

In a statement signed by the Chairman, Media and Publicity Committee, Timi Ebikagboro, the DFA described the Gwa board as an illegality, which cannot stand the test of time.

While stating that the General Assembly, from which Giwa purportedly emerged President of the NFF was not an elective congress of the football-governing body, Ebikagboro, a seasoned broadcaster, with long years in the journalism industry, said that Dela FA  will never be a party to any illegality being contrived by some persons bent on destroying Nigerian football.

“We wish to clearly state that the board of the Delta Football Association will not recognise or work with the purported board of the NFF being supposedly led by Chris Giwa. The first reason being that his supposed election contravenes the Statutes of FIFA and the NFF, which clearly defines that elections can only hold in an Elective Congress and not  Extra-Ordinary General Assembly, which was what Tuesday’s Congress in Abuja was termed.

“The purpose of that Congress held at Chida Hotel was to choose a new date for the elections. It was geared towards an agenda, which was to postpone and fix new dates for an election. The second reason we would not recognise the board of Giwa is that it was a far cry from the requirements needed to elect new officers to run our football. Only four accredited delegates voted in that kangaroo arrangement and as a well-meaning body, we at the Delta FA cannot be part of this arrangement”, added Ebikagboro.
