10 die in Kogi boat mishap

LOKOJA — Ten persons reportedly died in a boat mishap that occurred yesterday, in Ebe village in Lokoja Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The boat, said to have carried about 100 passengers, sank in River Niger when it collided with a security patrol team boat and another boat conveying bunkerers.

According to a source, the security patrol team was said to have chased the boat conveying drums of crude oil which was sighted on the River Niger in the early hours of yesterday into River Burara.

The source further revealed that the unfortunate incident was as a result of the diversion by the passenger boat from the original River Niger channel to River Burara due to the alleged poor dredging of the River Niger.

The passengers were going to Lokoja market from Ebe village in Kuba-North community of the local government area.
