NNPC visits IGP; GMD seeks more police presence in fight against oil theft

ABUJA — The Group managing Director of Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation, NNPC, Dr. Joseph Dawah, has appealed to the Nigerian Police High Command to deploy more personnel to secure pipelines and check crude oil theft.

The deployment is also to help protect refined products as well as protection for  NNPC’s top management staff.
Speaking when he visited the Acting Inspector General of Police, Suleiman Abba, to congratulate him on his new appointment, Dr. Dawah noted that peace and security were essential ingredients for socio-economic growth and prosperity of any nation, adding that the Police was a key security apparatus to achieving this.

He thanked the police for maintaining the age-long collaborative relationship that had existed between the Police and the NNPC.
Responding, the IGP expressed his appreciation to the Group Managing Director of the NNPC for the visit and reassured him that the Police will continue to give maximum protection to oil facilities and the NNPC personnel.

He also promised police’s determination to explore modern techniques of surveillance in protecting critical national infrastructure.
