Jos – GOVERNOR Jonah Jang of Plateau State, has expressed concern over the rising crime wave in the country and the ease courts grant bail to hardened criminals, warning that such actions endanger the entire society.

He appealed to Judges to ensure criminals face justice, urging them to brace up as the 2015 elections approach to resolve election disputes so that nobody takes the law into his or her hands.
The governor spoke yesterday at the Government House, when he swore-in Justice Pius Damulak as the substantive Chief Judge of the State.
Jang called on the Chief Judge, Justice Damulak to discharge his responsibilities without fear or favour, remain patriotic and continue to put in his best for the State.

According to him, “It is with joy that I am exercising the power conferred on me by Section 271 sub-section 1 of the 1999 constitution as amended to swear in Hon. Justice Pius Damulak as the Chief Judge of Plateau State. However, I am concerned with the rise of crimes in the country. While the security agencies are doing their best to curtail this ugly development, I urge your leadership to ensure that the criminals face justice. We are concerned with the ease with which our courts grant bail to these hardened criminals, some of them serial offenders. These actions are source of danger to the entire society.”

He noted the achievements recorded by the judiciary and charged the third arm of government to “live above board” especially “as we approach the 2015 elections, the judiciary will again be called upon to play its traditional role to resolve election disputes.”
