AFRIMA: There’s hope for African music — Oscar Kidjo

By Anozie Egolie

As Africans await the nomination list which would be released to the public at the end of the month, a Jury Member of All Africa Music Awards,AFRIMA, Oscar Kidjo representing West Africa Region has revealed that out of the 2,025 entries submitted for the awards, 60% had good quality videos.

Kidjo made this disclosure while speaking to newsmen in Lagos recently. This figure, however, indicates there is still hope for African music.
According to him, there were music videos entries of poor quality which shows that the African Music industry is growing and will need a lot of professional investment to improve the standard of production. “No music is bad; Africa is blessed with great potentials and talents but the challenge is with the quality of video production  and this reflects the quality of music we produce in Africa”.

The adjudication process by the jury members ended a fortnight ago with a media parley held at Ibis Hotel, Ikeja, Lagos. The nomination process is on and the list would be audited by a professional and international auditing firm.
