Plateau communities denounce violence, seek investors

By Marie-Therese Nanlong

Jos— Warring groups in Plateau State communities have regretted their actions, which they say had cost them development and pledge to lay down their arms for peace to thrive in the zone.

The groups, comprising women and youths from diverse tribes and religion, said they had realised their mistakes of yielding to those who exploit them instead of giving peace the chance to thrive, so that investors who will give employment opportunities can invest in their communities.

The groups from Jos North, Jos South, Jos East, Riyom, Bassa and Barkin Ladi appealed to investors to invest in their localities as peace had returned, so that more women and youths will have access to economic empowerment.

Making the pledge, yesterday in Jos at the Women for Peace on Plateau rally and Youth Football for Peace organised by the Institute for Governance and Social Research, IGSR, members of the groups, who came out in their numbers, renounced violence and promised to work together in unity.

Addressing the groups, President of IGSR, Prof. Elias Elaigwu, through the Project Manager, Danjuma Jise reminded them of the need to integrate and live in peace as the polarization of communities along ethnic and religious lines has robbed them of opportunities to learn from one another.
