Activities grounded in Ikorodu, as Ayangburen’s corpse arrives

Commercial activities were yesterday, grounded in Ikorodu and its environs as the remains of the ancient town monarch, Oba Salaudeen Oyefusi, the Ayangburen of Ikorodu, arrived Lagos from London, where he died on Saturday.

As part of the traditional rites, a 24-hour curfew imposed on women, in town since Wednesday will end today.

As a result of the curfew, all shops, business centres, banks and companies as well as markets were closed.

A family source who pleaded anonymity, told Vanguard that the corpse arrived in the afternoon and special prayers were immediately offered by Islamic clerics before the corpse was handed over to the traditionalists for the continuation of the rites.

Vehicular movement was light as at yesterday while human movement around the palace and his residential area was light except for traditional chiefs.

As at 10pm Wednesday, security situation in Ikorodu heightened especially within the palace area along Beach road and the late monarch’s residence at Ayangburen area.

Meanwhile, a factional leader of Oodua People’s Congress, OPC,  Otunba Gani Adams, who was recently conferred with a chieftaincy title in Ikorodu, described the monarch as resolute man, especially in his policies against land grabbing.

He said the late Ayangburen, was noted for peace and progress, adding that ”he was an asset and a resolute man who believed in peace.”
