Lagos — A 69-year-old surveyor, Ayotunde Ajayi, has been docked before a Tinubu Magistrate’s Court, for fraudulently obtaining the sum of N3.3million, meant for some plots of land.
Ajayi, who resides at 165 Isolo Road, at Ikotun-Egbe, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining and stealing preferred against him by the police.
Police prosecutor, Francesca Okere, told the court that Ajayi committed the alleged offences sometimes in November 2009.
She said the incident took place at Aguda in Surulere area of the state.
Okere further stated that the defendant stole the money belonging to one Chief Ayondotun Ayanlakin, on the pretext that he was going to allocate some plots of land to him, a representation he knew to be false.
The prosecutor said the offence was punishable under section 312 (a) and 285 of the criminal law of Lagos State, 2011.
The defendant was admitted to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum, after pleading not guilty to the charges against him.
Magistrate A.T. Omoyele, however, adjourned the matter till September 18, 2014, for further hearing.
