PORT HARCOURT: METHODIST church Nigeria has blamed Alhaji Kashim Shettima, governor of Borno state for the predicament of the female students of Government Secondary school, Chibok who were abducted April 14 this year by members of the dreaded islamic sect, Boko Haram.

Prelate of the church, His Eminence, Dr Samuel Kanu in his address Tuesday in Port Harcourt at the opening of the 44th conference of the Methodist church, Nigeria advised the federal government to declare full scale state of emergency in ” any state where there is unnecessary unrest”, adding that it would make governors wake up to their responsibilities as Chief Security officers of their various states.

Continuing, the Prelate of the Methodist church Nigeria, His Eminence, Dr Kanu said the motive behind the killings by the dreaded Islamic group, Boko Haram and Fulani gunmen in the northern part of the country were to islamise the nation and make it ungovernable.

While urging the church to continue to pray for leaders of the country, the Prelate, Dr Kanu urged the political class to put national interest first in all they do, noting that there would be no elections in a troubled nation.

“There has been Killings and destruction of peoples properties with explosives by the terrorist Boko Haram and the Fulani gunmen. Both of the dangerous groups have common agenda to islamise Nigeria or make it ungovernable . Worst still, we all experience the horrifying experience of the Chibok girls who were abducted from their school on 14th April, 2014. Recovering these girls has become an uphill task for our Government. We need to say that the governor of Bornu state should be held accountable for the predicament of these girls”, he said.

The Prelate who commended governor Chibuike Amaechi of Rivers state for providing purposeful leadership in the state inspite of challenges also called on the church to pray for crisis areas of Africa continent and other parts of the world.

Governor Chibuike Amaechi who was represented by his Commissioner for Culture and Tourism, Dr Nabbs Imeagwu declared the conference opened.
