ABAKALIKI—FIFTEEN persons, who previous suffered Visco Virginal Fistula, VVF, have been cured and discharged from the South East Fistula Centre, built by wife of Ebonyi State Governor, Mrs. Josephine Elechi at the state University Teaching Hospital, Abakaliki.

The discharged patients, which is the 7th batch of treated VVF patients since the inauguration of the centre on December 2008, brings to 352, the total number of treated patients so far at the centre.

Addressing the discharged patients, the wife of Ebonyi State Governor and initiator of Mother and Child Care Imitative, MCCI, Mrs. Elechi, expressed delight that despite the challenges that had confronted the centre, the Fistula centre has been able to record a lot of success.

Mrs. Elechi reiterated her determination to put smiles on the faces of the less privileged in the society and urged the repaired patients to extend her campaign against female genital mutilation and for the girl child education to the rural communities.

She charged the women to abstain from sexual intercourse for at least six months, so that they can be properly healed. She also admonished the VVF treated patients to bear in mind that if any of them must give birth again, it has to be through caesarian operation and not through normal delivery.
