Suspended Anambra LP chairman drags party, INEC to court

ONITSHA — Suspended chairman of the Labour Party, LP, in Anambra State, Mr. Sam Oraegbunem, has dragged the national leadership of the party and the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, to a Federal High Court in Awka, challenging his alleged suspension last month by the state working committee.

Speaking with reporters, yesterday, Oraegbunem said due process was not followed in his suspension, stressing that the party’s constitution clearly stated how an officer could be suspended.

”I have gone to court to challenge my so called suspension and I hope that national leadership will suspend action, pending the determination of my suit.

“The suit was filed on July 8 and the first hearing would be in September,” Oraegbunem said.
they have been duly served as well as INEC,” he said.

Oraegbunem, who was reacting to a letter from the national secretariat of the party, signed by the National Secretary, Alhaji A.A Salam, said he had expected that the issue of vote of no confidence should have been raised by the party in the state rather than issue of allegations.
