Apapa Road: Tanker drivers promise to maintain gridlock-free movement

By Bose Adelaja

Lagos— If feelers from Petroleum Tanker Drivers, PTD, is anything to go by, road users in Apapa area of Lagos will soon be having hitch-free movement along the corridor, as the drivers have promised to maintain the existing free road witnessed during the just concluded Eid-el Fitri celebration.

Also, the drivers have said they would not in anyway contravenethe Lagos traffic law which could cause impediment to the ongoing road construction on the only road leading to the nation’s port.

Petroleum Tankers Drivers’ South West Public Relations Officer, Comrade Tayo Aboyeji, said, directives were issued to his members to cooperate with the contractors.

‘’This is due to the union directive that no tanker should be found causing an impediment to the contractor working on the road,” he said.

Aboyeji, who noticed the ongoing palliative measures by the government, also said this would ease traffic congestion after the public holidays.

‘’Yes, traffic will reduce because the road is a bit okay,’’ he said.

He, however, attributed other challenges to lack of parking bay, which he said had remained un-resolved and might affect the existing structure put in place by the drivers to maintain sanity on the road.
