Army commissions 260 housing units

By Yinka Kolawole
The Defence Headquarters of the Nigerian Armed Forces has commissioned about 260 apartments for officers and men of the headquarters.

Minister of Defence, Major General Godwin Abbe, said while handing over the keys to the beneficiaries at the Mogadishu Cantonment, that the houses would aid in boosting the morale of its officers.

He recalled the bitter experiences military personnel had when the Defence Headquarters was relocated years back from Lagos to Abuja, adding that provision of decent accommodation to officers would to a great extent determine their performance at the war front.
“It is our obligation in the military to take the welfare of our officers seriously, in fact it is a command responsibility and consequently programmes are designed to cater for the happiness, well being and prosperity of our personnel.

“The reason for this is to bring some measures of comfort to be able to train hard in field, so that we can bring best and destruction to our enemies in war and whenever this is not available, you would find moral low and productivity declined,” he added. The Chief of Defence Staff, Air Chief  Marshal Paul Dike noted that concerted efforts would be made towards enhancing the life of its workforce.

“This is to motivate and engender spirit_de_corps, since we recognise the primacy of human capital as the most essential ingredient for organisational growth and sustenance.” He urged the beneficiaries of the well furnished storey buildings/duplex to ensure that they are judiciously utilized,” he stated.
